This week I have decided to look at the work of three photographers at once purely due to the fact that I can apply what I have learnt from each artist, thus forming one stronger outlook towards fashion photography.
Helmut Newton is a photographic genius...I strongly appreciate is black and white street fashion work due to their powerful and bold use of stark and high contrasted lighting. He provides his female subjects with an omniscient sense of power over the viewer. They look strong with an immense and overwhelming sense of cool.
Clifford Coffin is a Vogue photographer who I have only just recently discovered in the library. His photographs are composed immensely well which is naturally complemented by his clever and iconic use of bold colours which act as a contrast to whatever backdrop or location he is using.
Mario Testino on the other hand is a master at representing women and both powerful and sexy. With confident and compositionally pleasing poses, Testino has taught me that less is more...and by this I mean that sometimes the most simplest poses can be the most powerful or predominant.
In order for this project to be a success I must continue researching the history of fashion photography as it is opening my eyes to new approaches and style of photographing the world of fashion.
