During the first week of our fashion unit, we were asked by Lucie Crewdson to arrange an on-location fashion shoot; by this we were expected to use a model, a selection of clothes and of course a unique or interesting location/locations.
In response to this I organised a shoot within a warehouse coincidentally owned by the step father of my stylist. After all, this location is filled with various rooms which would offer me a unique sense of diversity/variety when photographing the model wearing different outfits.
Due to the fact that it is so early into the project, I have decided to approach this shoot from an alternative mindset; by this I have decided to photograph on expired 1990 Kodak 35mm film whilst using a rear flash. Due to the vibrant and colourful nature of the clothes used within this shoot I personally decided to use such old e6 film in order to reinforce the colours present. By x-processing this e6 film in the c41 processor, I am able to achieve certain colours and tonal variations that quite frankly aren't available within the present day (to an extent).
For this location session I decided to draw inspiration from the colour work of Guy Bourdin as well as the blurred fashion work of Norman Parkinson. This can clearly be seen through the vibrant and colourful nature of my photographs which are reinforced by the presence of motion blur caused by the use of a rear flash. Personally I did enjoy this photographic session excessively due to the fact that it got me out of my comfort with regards to how I approach a fashion shoot in general. However, I still would like to continue with this form of experimentation and exploration as the weeks progress.
I must now find something to directly focus on in order to produce a unique and powerful series of images/work.
