A decided to come home for the weekend and catch up with a few friends, one of which being Lauren. I was growing a bit tried of the studio and therefore decided to do a location shoot within Northampton's town centre. The whole point of this shoot was to be spontaneous and brave; embrace the moment rather than trying to find a practical one.
My intention was to simply let the photographs come to me, after all I have recently acknowledged how some fashion photographers have too much emphasis on their selected location which quite often overpowers their models presence within the photograph.
The photograph above was recently featured (alongside a few other photographs) on the Lomography website. I had Lauren waiting by the pillar for that perfect moment of sun when this lad began pacing down the underpass; as if it was a runway. It was one of the moments where both Lauren and myself acted on instinct, it was pretty good. At that moment in time I was experimenting with expired black and white film which has burdened me slightly due to his face being heavily grainy (only because he's in the shadows).
The two photographs above are a prime example as to why you should never over plan or over think a photograph which has an initial desire to a product of the spontaneous. As I photographed Lauren (first photo out of the two) this very small little man emerged from the underpass; it was a matter of simply asking him if he and his fine beard would pose for me (I told him it was for a magazine).
